Media Gave Bin Laden Propaganda Windfall

Re: “Propaganda Windfall” editorial, May 5:

The enemy can now gloat, but who handed them the propaganda that will serve as a recruiting device for Muslim zealots, a “coup” that our men on the ground will now have to pay for with their lives?

These soldiers weren’t “stressed out,” but sick. The news coup did not unveil a cover-up, nor did it reveal a policy of abuse, but merely the stupid antics of a small group of men and women who were already in the military justice system.

This is no moment of pride for CBS, “60 Minutes” or Dan Rather, it is a wartime revelation that serves the enemy’s — and only the enemy’s — interests. Osama bin Laden thanks his 5th Column, the American media that so stridently opposed to the war.

The Arabs already believe a number of absurdities, and now CBS has given them something to justify their worst nonsense. Eager, self-serving politicians are already calling for an “investigation” to produce more of the same. As usual, the media is proud to flaunt its freedom, though others will pay with their lives for the arrogance.
