Doubts About Morgan

Thank you for the recent comprehensive and balanced reporting about Richard Morgan by David Sinclair and Florence Gilkeson.

Morgan and his supporters constantly mention the amount of money he has raised for other Republicans.

The April 7 article says, “For the 2000 election, Morgan raised $191,000 throughout the state for Republican candidates.”

Perhaps, in the interest of complete reporting, The Pilot could list the names of the candidates who received the $191,000 in 2000. I cannot find the candidates’ names.

The April 2 column reports, “Morgan has raised millions of dollars over the years to help elect Republicans to the General Assembly” and “Morgan has never raised less than $1 million.” Again, may we have the details? If he is raising millions of dollars, where is he reporting it and what is he promising in exchange for all that money? I cannot find any record of millions of dollars.

Many elected Republicans spoke about their fear that Morgan would work to replace them if they did not agree with Morgan’s agenda. The April 2 column also says, “Democratic leaders, likewise, say they won’t go after Republicans who supported the bipartisan coalition, according to (Democratic Speaker of the House) Black.”

If an elected Republican does not vote with Morgan and the Democrats, they will team up to elect a Democrat or a more compliant Republican.

No wonder our taxes have increased three times in three years.
