The arrogance of Bob Katrin is beyond astonishing. In his first paragraph (March 26), he excuses The Pilot, and the little girl for wanting to send cookies to the troops, as if she doesn’t know any better and that the area is far from the fray. Mr. Katrin, someone like you will always be as far from the fray as he can get. Your question: “Is it conceivable that we should or could raise our children to fear and despise war?” Do you think that those young men and boys who landed on Normandy or Iwo Jima felt that there was glory in war? I doubt it. If we did not confront the likes of Hitler, Tojo and Hussein, where would this world be today? We will always remain a prosperous and strong country, not because of people like Mr. Katrin, but because of a sweet patriotic little girl who wants to send cookies to our troops.
