Morgan: Loyal Republican

The article in your issue of Feb. 20, regarding the attempt by resolution to oust Co-Speaker Richard Morgan, starts off with a quotation that this self-appointed committee finds Richard Morgan “culpable of disloyalty to the North Carolina Republican Party.”

This in itself convinces one that this resolution is without any merit, as Co-Speaker Morgan has been a loyal Republican since even when it was neither popular nor politically correct to be a Republican in Moore County or the state of North Carolina! Today he is even more a loyal Republican, traveling up and down our state as he has done for many years espousing the cause of the Republican Party to anyone who will listen.

As the elected co-speaker of the House, Richard Morgan was responsible more than any other Republican in this state for the successful performance by the House in holding the line on our taxes, replacing a part of the tax money stolen from designated special accounts by the Democratic administration, creating a redistricting map more favorable for re-electing Republican legislators, and finishing the last session of the House in record time.

If this is their claimed disloyalty to the Republican Party, where does loyalty to the citizens of North Carolina enter into this formula?

It is my belief that the present chairman of the Moore County Republican Party Executive Committee is prepared to personally support this resolution should it come to a vote in the district and state committees to which she belongs, and action which would expose her perceived enmity toward the finest legislator that Moore County has ever sent to the N.C. State House of Representatives. The Moore County Republican committee which she heads voted unanimously to disavow such a resolution (I was there!), but she apparently will persist in espousing this egregious action.
